Busting Disney Myths

Being known as the ‘Disney Lady’ by friends and acquaintances, I’m asked a lot of questions about the parks and resorts that are based on Internet myths and rumors. Below are a few ‘busted’ myths that I’ve talked to people about in recent months:

  1. Disney is too expensive – my family simply can’t afford it. I’d be the first person to tell you that Walt Disney World vacations can be costly – between resort accommodations, plane tickets, park tickets and food, we’re talking thousands of dollars. But there are lots of ways to save money (see my previous post). Consider a value resort or (gasp!) stay off property.

  2. It’s only for people with kids. Sure, I went to Disney as a kid. But I’ve also had some of the best vacations of my life visiting the parks as an adult. There’s more than enough for couples to enjoy and really, turning 30 with a Princess breakfast at Cinderella castle is pretty tough to beat.

  3. My kids are too little, they won’t remember. Maybe, but you’ll remember. The look on their face when they see Mickey for the first time or how they couldn’t get enough of Finding Nemo: The Musical. Its challenge to tour the parks with babies and small children, but I’ve done it and lived to tell about it.

  4. It’s too crowded/hot. Use sites like WDWPrepSchool.com to find the ‘green’’ dates –when crowds are low – this tends to be when the weather is cooler. You might not get a chance to go swimming every day but you also won’t wait in line for two hours to ride Dumbo.

  5. It’s not for me. I can’t argue this point effectively. At the end of the day, you’re Disney ‘people’ or you’re not – and if you stick with me, I’ll eventually make you into a Disney ‘person’ (insert evil laugh).
