Beating the Heat at Disney: Part 2 of 3
A few simple, no-nonsense tips for beating the heat at the Parks. Each one tried and tested by yours truly:
Other tips for beating the heat:
Water, water and more water. Do whatever it takes to drink what the average person would consider to be an obscene amount of water and make sure everyone in your party is doing the same. It will keep you hydrated (duh) and power you through the hottest weather. If you have space, put the bottles in the freezer the night before and then take those super-cold bottles with you to the parks.
Cooling paraphernalia. There are personal fans, clip-on stroller fans, cooling towels and more. The least complicated thing is a damp washcloth that you keep in the freezer overnight, pack into a Ziploc bag and take into the parks with you.
A subset of cooling paraphernalia should include moisture-wicking clothes, socks, Gold Bond body powder and foot powder. If you’re hell-bent on spending the entire day in the parks, a change of socks mid-way through a sweltering day goes a long way for overall comfort.
Baby care centers. These aren’t just for people with tiny babies. They are wonderfully air-conditioned places where you can refill your water bottles with cool, filtered water, feed your little one(s), rest your feet and just plain regroup. You can find one in each park – read my blog post about making the most of these spots. Not to mention BABY WIPES are a great way to ‘freshen up’ on a particularly sweaty day.
